1. From the Bearcats to the Bengals, Kelsey Conway has put down roots in Cincinnati.

Maryland native Kelsey Conway wanted two things out of a college: Big-time sports and a strong journalism program. She landed in the non-traditional lacrosse market of Ohio and started at midfield all four years at the University of Cincinnati. In 2021, she returned to Cincinnati — this time covering the Bengals for the Enquirer. In the November issue’s “Life After Lax,” Conway discusses her journey from the field to the Super Bowl press box and how a UC contact helped her land the gig. It’s available online here.

2. Dom Starsia gets a new lease on coaching in high school ranks.

After a legendary 42-year collegiate career, the winningest coach in men’s NCAA Division I history can be found patrolling the sidelines at the Blue Ridge School, a boarding school in Virginia. A Virginia NBC affiliate caught up with Starsia, who also provides commentary during Richmond men’s games.

3. UMBC releases its spring schedule.

The calendar has just flipped to November, but signs of spring are already popping up on school’s websites. America East runner-up UMBC put out its 2023 slate yesterday. The 12-game slate will include eight home games in the upgraded UMBC Stadium Complex that includes a new press box and ramps for ADA-compliant accessibility. UMBC will scrimmage old America East foe Stony Brook on Feb. 4 and Princeton Feb. 11 before taking its first game of the season at Drexel on Feb. 18. The Retrievers’ first home game is against St. Mary’s on Feb. 25.

• Though the 2021 Loyola men’s lacrosse team didn’t take home the NCAA title, it certainly proved to have a flare for the dramatics, including a nail-biter of a win over Denver in the NCAAs. PressBox Online writer Glenn Clark called the season one of the 15 most memorable non-championship campaigns of any Maryland-area team in history.
