Good morning. Here's the latest from the lacrosse world:

1. Someone had a sense of humor when scheduling USA and England for July 4.

The Americans pieced together a performance that would’ve made our forefathers proud, downing the Brits 15-9. Taylor Cummings tallied six draws and earned Player of the Match honors, while Charlotte North turned in a four-goal performance. Team USA advances to the championship bracket, where it will take on Hong Kong, China, tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

2. A look at the rest of the bracket.

New Zealand, Ireland, Mexico and Israel are among the teams advancing to the championship bracket. Mexico’s Isabel Szekj tallied four goals and one assist in a win over Colombia to bring her point total to 18. Former Northwestern star and current Army assistant coach Katrina Dowd tallied 10 points in the Irish’s 14-10 victory against Austria.

3. PLL reveals All-Star Game captains.

Faceoff specialists Trevor Baptiste (Atlas) and Connor Farrell (Chrome) will captain the 2022 All-Star Game, the Premiere Lacrosse League announced on Twitter Monday. The game is set for Saturday, July 16, in Boston.

Baptiste, who sustained a hamstring injury in the Atlas’ win over the Chrome this weekend, currently leads the league faceoff percentage (72 percent).

4. A new lacrosse league is coming.

The Professional Box Lacrosse Association (PBLA) announced a new professional American box league is forming, with games slated to begin in December.

Steve Donner, former president/CEO of the Rochester Knighthawks of the NLL, will serve as commissioner.

According to a press release, the league will begin announcing which cities will have teams on July 19. Fans will have a chance to vote for the team name.

WHAT WE’RE READING

  • Storytelling is key for the PLL as the league moves to push the sport forward by getting fans invested in the players.
  • Undefeated New Zealand is built on homegrown talent.

  • At 16, Zoe Martin is one of the game’s youngest emerging stars. She’s been a key contributor to Israel.

  • Jeff Teat’s late goal and a Jack Concannon save allowed the Atlas to hold off another Chrome comeback attempt and win 14-13. The loss was the first of the season for the Chrome. Meanwhile, the Chaos nabbed their first win of the season after scoring the final two goals of the game to beat the Cannons 13-11. Jack Goods has more in his weekly notebook.

  • UMass has a new women’s head coach, but she’s no stranger to the program. Jana Drummond has been on the sidelines as an assistant and associate head coach for five seasons. Relationships will be at the center of her playbook.

WHAT WE’RE WATCHING

Kieran McArdle’s third goal of the day was his most important in the Waterdogs’ win over the Whipsnakes.
