Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. “A momentous day for lacrosse enthusiasts around the world.”
The International Olympic Committee voted Tuesday to grant full recognition status to World Lacrosse, another milestone in the quest to get lacrosse back in the Olympic Games.
The vote took place during the IOC session in Tokyo ahead of the upcoming Olympics there.
2. Kelly McPartland was named the new women’s lacrosse coach at Wagner, the latest move in a busy offseason on the coaching carousel. McPartland replaces Michelle Tumolo, who left to take the head job at Army.
A former All-American midfielder at Maryland, McPartland was the defensive coordinator at Delaware for the last two seasons. She was on the staff at Columbia for four years before that.
3. USA Lacrosse announced All-Americans and award winners for the 2021 high school lacrosse season. The boys’ honorees included winners of the Bob Scott Award, while the girls’ list named recipients of the Jackie Pitts Award. Both included All-American, All-Academic and Coach of the Year award winners.
4. Longtime lacrosse media member Casey Vock is recovering from gunshot wounds after he was shot in the head while driving home from a hike May 30 in Baltimore.
Vock has worked as a writer and for Inside Lacrosse, 3d Lacrosse and Summit Lacrosse Ventures. According to a GoFundMe page established to assist Vock financially, he “survived a bullet that literally entered beneath his left temple and exited under his right eye, missing his brain by two inches and causing him to crash his car while the perpetrators drove off.”
Inside Lacrosse editor in chief Matt Kinnear wrote a column Monday describing Vock as “one of lacrosse’s most fiercely passionate advocates” and calling on the lacrosse community to contribute to his recovery.
