Yesterday we kicked off a deep dive into our college lacrosse previews, beginning the rundown of the Top 20 from the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I rankings. We’ll break down a new men’s and women’s team each weekday through the month of January.

1. Army suffered some big-time graduation losses on the defensive end, but plenty of offensive firepower returns as the Black Knights enter the season No. 20 in the Nike/US Lacrosse preseason men’s rankings.

2. Abby Hormes’ record-breaking season led High Point to another Big South championship. Hormes is a big reason the Panthers are No. 20 in the Nike/US Lacrosse preseason women’s rankings.

3. Count these Team USA athletes among the stars you’ll see at LaxCon 2020 this weekend. Sign up by Jan. 8 to save $20 over the walk-up price.

4. Colorado overcame a slow start to beat Vancouver and take the lead in the NLL West with a 3-1 record. Jack Goods with the weekly NLL Notebook.

5. Steven Brooks and Ric Beardsley will be the assistant coaches for Atlas LC in 2020, joining new head coach Ben Rubeor’s staff.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• US Lacrosse has over 150 coaching instructional clinics scheduled for the first three months of 2020.

• Axios shows NCAA data illustrating the rise in the number of lacrosse and track & field programs.

• Former CFL player Daryl Waud is now suiting up for the NLL’s Philadelphia Wings.

• Rachel Benzing is the first women’s lacrosse coach at Missouri Western.

• Work took Emily Standan from the UK to Argentina, and now she’ll suit up for Argentina for the 2021 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship — hosted by US Lacrosse at Towson University.
