Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. We have two new No. 1s in Division I college lacrosse. After North Carolina women downed Maryland in overtime and Penn men followed a couple hours later with a shocking upset of No. 1 Duke, the rankings were bound for a “scramble.”

That’s what we saw on Monday, when Stony Brook topped the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20, followed by a surprise James Madison team and Marie McCool’s Tar Heels. Maryland moves back to No. 4 after the loss.

Defending champion Maryland moves into the No. 1 spot in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20, after blowing out the same Penn team that downed Duke. The most exciting team this season, Albany, is knocking on the door of the top ranking, sitting at No. 2. Duke slides in at No. 3 after the loss at Franklin Field.

Looking at the national polls released Monday, Stony Brook was the unanimous No. 1 team in Division I women's lacrosse. However, Albany leads both the Maverik/Cascade IL Media Poll and the USILA Poll.

Although James Madison comes in at No. 2 in our women's rankings, the Dukes sit No. 5 in the IL Media Poll and No. 7 in the IWLCA Poll.

2. Marie McCool’s game-winning goal to upset Maryland was mostly responsible for the shake-up in the rankings. It was that goal, and the game-tying assist she served up to Ela Hazar with 22 seconds remaining, that earned her Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

McCool, a returning Tewaaraton finalist and U.S. gold medalist, now leads North Carolina with 31 draw controls, 20 points and 18 goals in four games. 

3. Trevor Baptiste was unstoppable on Sunday, literally. He went 22-for-22 on faceoffs against an outmatched Cleveland State unit. It was the 22nd perfect game (minimum of 10 faceoff attempts) in NCAA Division I history, but among them, only a 25-for-25 showing by Sacred Heart’s Zach Smith in 2007 ranks ahead of what Baptiste accomplished Sunday.

He’ll add another accolade to the list, winning Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

4. The Pac-12 had a pretty good day on Monday, with Arizona State and Oregon picking up victories in women’s action.

Arizona State moves to 4-1 in its first season at the Division I level after pulling out of a 7-1 whole to beat Columbia 15-12. Oregon, on the other hand, took Canisius to overtime. In that period, it looked as though Canisius had scored the game-winning goal, but it was disallowed after multiple players threw their stick after the score. Mariah Gatti then scored on a free position shot to give the Ducks their first overtime win since 2013.

Cincinnati made it three straight wins after cruising past in-state rival Ohio State 17-12. McKenna Rushford (6) and Monica Borzillo (5) combined for 11 goals in the win.

- Also in women’s lacrosse, Syracuse will be without draw specialist Morgan Widner for the rest of the season after a Friday MRI revealed she tore her ACL and meniscus in Thursday’s game against Albany.

5. Dan Dawson is headed to Saskatchewan. The NLL’s fifth-leading scorer all-time was the odd man out in the Rochester Knighthawks lineup, so the team traded him to the Rush for a second-round draft pick this year and a third-round choice in 2020.

Dawson spent parts of six seasons with the Knighthawks after coming over from the Philadelphia Wings in 2012. Although he played sparingly as of late, Dawson had nine goals and 17 assists this season.

“After thinking long and hard about it, we can’t have our cake and eat it too,” Knighthawks owner and general manager Curt Styres said. “With Dan ready to play and being a scratch — for all he’s done for lacrosse — he deserves to play. With us playing lights out the last three games, it would be tough to make any changes to the lineup.”

The Knighthawks offense had gotten a boost from American Joe Resetarits, whose 14-point game this weekend vaulted him into a tie with Mark Matthews for the NLL lead in points. 

Resetarits could become the first American player in 29 years to win the NLL scoring title. Read up on Resetarits’ story, as well as others in Neil Stevens’ NLL notebook.

6. Brynn Cartelli is only 14 years old, but she’s already making headlines as a singer. Cartelli, the Longmeadow, Mass. native who plays for the Bay State Bullets, became the first person to join Kelly Clarkson’s team on NBC’s The Voice on Monday night.

Cartelli sang “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Laberinth and she won over both Clarkson (former American Idol winner) and fellow judge Blake Shelton. Cartelli went with Team Kelly.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Quint Kessenich gives us his men’s lacrosse top 20 after a crazy weekend of meaningful comebacks.

• Albany and Stony Brook topped multiple national polls Monday, making it two SUNY teams that lead the nation in lacrosse.

• Colorado won its first home game since losing one of its team leaders in Julia Sarcona, who died in a car crash in January.

• Salisbury men’s lacrosse sent its wishes to Lynchburg junior attackman Andrew Thomas, who remains in the ICU after injuring his chest in a game last weekend.
