Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Towson, High Point and Colgate debuted in this week’s Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20 after knocking off preseason top-10 ranked Johns Hopkins, Duke and Syracuse, respectively. Penn State and Loyola, meanwhile, both moved into the top five.

2. Denver, Penn State and Navy were the risers in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women’s Top 20, while North Carolina solidified its claim as a 2019 frontrunner by beating handily the team that bookended its 2018 season with defeats.

3. Limestone is back, ascending to No. 7 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Men’s Top 20 after hammering 2018 darling Lenoir-Rhyne.

4. Inside Lacrosse and the USILA also released media and coaches polls Monday.

Of note:

  • Syracuse is hanging on at No. 20 in the IL media poll, while the Orange have been bounced from the rankings entirely in the Nike/USL and USILA coaches rankings — marking the first time since 2012 that Syracuse has dropped out of the latter.

  • The coaches were more forgiving of Duke’s loss to High Point, slotting the Blue Devils at No. 8, than IL (No. 10) or Nike/USL (No. 14).

  • North Carolina’s ranking ranges from No. 8 (Nike/USL) to No. 14 (IL). In between, the Tar Heels are No. 12 in the USILA poll.

  • The biggest discrepancies in the women’s rankings are Penn (No. 6 in Nike/USL Top 20, No. 13 in IL poll) and Loyola (No. 12 and No. 7, respectively).

  • Notre Dame and Stanford have spots in the Nike/USL Top 20, while the IL media poll instead includes Duke and USC.

5.  Kieran Mullins played the role of closer, factoring in five goals during Rutgers’ game-ending seven-goal run against St. John’s to earn Warrior/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

6. Madison Carter eclipsed 200 career points, assured Penn State fans that there’s plenty of firepower left after the graduation of Katie O’Donnell and helped the Nittany Lions avenge last year’s season-opening loss to Towson. She’s the Brine/US Lacrosse Player of the Week.

7. The Calgary Roughnecks got a Saskatoon-sized monkey off their back when they defeated the Rush for the first time since the franchise relocated from Edmonton. Catch up on the pro indoor circuit in this week’s NLL notebook.
