1.  In the lone Division I lacrosse game on Monday, Florida opened American Athletic Conference play with a 19-12 win at Cincinnati. Emma LoPinto scored five goals as the Gators won their sixth straight game.

2. There was also a rare National Lacrosse League game on Monday and Colorado pulled away for a 10-7 victory over New York. Eli McLaughlin scored four goals and Dillon Ward made 35 saves.

3. The latest Nike/USA Lacrosse rankings came out on Monday for NCAA lacrosse.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Sad news from Binghamton where graduate student and men’s lacrosse player Robert Martin died. The Syracuse Post-Standard reported that the death was by suicide. Binghamton’s game on Saturday was postponed.

• VMI’s men’s lacrosse program is headed to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference due to the departure of several other programs from the Southern Conference.

• Family connections often bring people to the sport, but Penn’s Kaitlyn Cumiskey came to the sport through a neighbor’s introduction.

• A Q&A with Syracuse senior women’s lacrosse player Jalyn Jimerson.

• Newsom (Fla.) coach Eric Blackburn was a national winner of the Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double Goal Coach Award.

• Tucker LaBelle, a men’s lacrosse player for the NAIA program at Clarke University in Iowa, got an early jump on name image likeness opportunities.
