Good morning. Here's the latest from the lacrosse world:
1. And then there were 78.
World Lacrosse announced the addition of Uruguay on Wednesday, bringing its total of National Federations to 78.
The nation is the 21st member of the Pan-American Lacrosse Association and the sixth from South America, joining Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Uruguay is the 35th member to join World Lacrosse in the last decade and eighth in the past year.
2. Amanda Belichick finds balance and joy.
Holy Cross head coach Amanda Belichick remembers visiting her father, Bill, at practices and in his office as a child — something she credits with shaping her future. This summer, her young children served as her co-pilots on work trips. In the latest IWLCA Behind the Whistle, Belichick writes that it wasn’t always pretty, but it was worth it.
3. USF women’s lacrosse will debut in 2024-25.
The University of South Florida athletics department has announced the inaugural season of competition. The Bulls, led by former Jacksonville head coach Mindy McCord, will officially start competing during the 2024-25 academic year, a year later than the original 2023-24 start date.
According to a news release from USF athletics, the extra year allows the new program to go through two full recruiting cycles.
The first student-athletes will arrive on campus in the fall of 2023 and participate in exhibition matches during the spring of 2024. USF announced the addition of women’s lacrosse in November 2021 and named McCord head coach in May.
