Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The three-beat drumbeat is starting to sound in Charlottesville.

After a strong showing in the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic, the Virginia men’s lacrosse team has returned to Charlottesville, where the Cavaliers will host an alumni game and receive their 2021 NCAA championship rings Saturday. This time, they’re not shying away from talk of a third straight national title, evidenced by this feature on faceoff man Petey LaSalla and this report by CBS19 Sports from Wednesday.

2. The Tufts and Suffern (N.Y.) lacrosse communities are still reeling from the death of Jumbos women’s lacrosse player Madie Nicpon.

A close friend told WCVB, Boston’s ABC affiliate, that Nicpon choked during a hot dog eating contest Saturday — part of the “Play for Pink” breast cancer awareness day organized by the school’s student-athletes. Authorities confirmed to The Journal News that’s what happened. Nicpon died Sunday at Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 20.
