Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The recruiting dead period has been extended.
Yesterday, in light of worsening COVID-19 numbers, the Division I Council extended the recruiting dead period for all Division I sports through April 15. The dead period stipulates that there is no in-person, face-to-face contact between prospective student-athletes and college coaches.
“Members also voted to permit additional flexibility in virtual recruiting in football by allowing all coaches, full-time school staff members and current students to conduct recruiting calls (telephone calls and video calls) without a countable coach being present,” the statement also notes.
2. College lacrosse has become a budgetary juggling nightmare.
That’s how Hall of Famer and Denver head coach Bill Tierney described the logistical and financial ramifications of the NCAA’s blanket waiver. US Lacrosse Magazine contributor Justin Feil spoke with several Division I head coaches on the topic.
“While the NCAA eligibility waiver was widely praised and expected to help student-athletes who didn’t get their full spring seasons, it makes projecting and managing rosters over the next four years more complex,” Feil writes.
The complexity and potential hurdles for college lacrosse coaches goes beyond Division I too.

3. Good things come to those who wait.
That should be Toby Burgdorf’s motto. After a post-grad season and two years in Rhode Island backing up four-year starter Tate Boyce, Burgdorf made the most of opportunity to play in 2020 and ranked second in save percentage in Division I. Patrick Stevens has more on the goalie who Providence coach Chris Gabrielli calls “intimidating” in the cage
