Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. UMBC, which needed a minor miracle to make the America East tournament and went on to win the conference’s automatic qualifier, defeated Marist 14-8 on Wednesday in the play-in game of the NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse tournament. Goalie Tommy Lingner, who lost the starting job when the Retrievers fell to 3-8 on April 20, came on in relief of Jack Morton and made nine saves. UMBC’s reward for its first NCAA tournament win since 2007? A date in Happy Valley with top-seeded Penn State on Sunday.

2. The second round of the NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament delivered some incredible moments Wednesday.

• Springfield, fueled this season by the memory of coach Keith Bugbee’s late daughter, dug itself out of a 6-0 hole and defeated host Ursinus 16-15 in overtime. Cam Glover scored the game-winning goal, his third of the game.

• St. John Fisher, making its NCAA tournament debut, stunned Gettysburg 11-10 in double overtime. Freshman Jordan Depetres sealed the upset with 1:17 left in the second OT.

3. UIndy rallied from three goals down, coughed up a four-goal lead and then defeated Queens 16-15 on Brian Robb’s goal with 11 seconds remaining in overtime in a wild NCAA Division II men’s lacrosse tournament opener Wednesday. The Greyhounds’ first-ever NCAA tournament win propelled them to the quarterfinals, where they’ll meet Belmont Abbey.

Mercy, Merrimack and Tampa also advanced with first-round wins.

4. Andy Copelan is out as the head coach at Fairfield after 11 seasons. He stepped down to accept a position as the coach and major gifts officer at Greenwich (Conn.) Country Day School.

5. Richmond and Georgetown pulled off a couple of stunners to win their conference championships and qualify for the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse tournament. Both teams are relishing the role of avengers.

6. Aquinas, Indiana Tech, Reinhardt and Cumberlands advanced to the semifinals of the NAIA men’s lacrosse invitational tournament with victories on opening day Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

7. The Boston College and Virginia Tech club teams both notched upsets in the WCLA Division I tournament Wednesday in Virginia Tech, Va. Also on Wednesday, the WCLA announced its All-Americans and winners of the Amtahcha Award — Michigan’s Amanda Riesmeyer and St. Thomas’ Sydney Liebl.
