Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. In Women’s Division I Bracketology, it’s down to six teams for four at-large NCAA tournament berths. Duke, Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts, Penn, Penn State and Stanford are each fighting to earn a berth in the big dance, and this week’s conference tournaments will play a big role in figuring out the remaining at-large spots.
Maryland leads the field in this edition of Bracketology, followed by Boston College, North Carolina and Syracuse. Check out the rest of the projected field, and read up on the rationale behind it.
2. High Point men’s lacrosse has work to do to clinch its berth in the NCAA tournament, but it has already turned in the best year in school history. John Torpey has led his program from a curious upstart to a giant killer — as evidenced by wins over Duke and Virginia this season.
Gary Lambrecht goes in-depth on the rise of the Panthers program. They battle Jacksonville in the SoCon semifinals tonight at 5:30 p.m.
3. Madison Doucette held off heart surgery so she could win a high school state championship. Then, she did it again to try out for the U.S. U19 women’s national team.
Her now-repaired heart is set on making the final cut for the 2019 FIL Women’s U19 World Championship. Check out her inspiring story from the April edition.
4. Le Moyne got past Merrimack on an Evan Kelly goal with less than three seconds remaining to cap a classic in the Division II rivalry. The Dolphins advance to the NE10 final with the 12-11 win and will face Adelphi, which beat Pace 15-12 later on Wednesday.
In Division III action, Ursinus got past Franklin & Marshall for the second time this season, scoring the final three goals — including the game-winner with 21 seconds left by Ben Minardi — to advance to the Centennial Conference final with a 12-11 victory. It will face Gettysburg on Saturday after the Bullets beat Dickinson 16-13.
Overall, no major upsets in the Nike/US Lacrosse Division III Men’s Top 20.
