Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Sam Apuzzo had herself a night against Navy in Annapolis on Wednesday. The reigning Tewaaraton winner dropped eight goals and two assists to lead Boston College to the 18-5 victory over the Mids to move to 7-0 on the year.

Apuzzo wasted no time getting on the board, scoring the Eagles’ first three goals less than 10 minutes into the game. Kate Taylor and Kenzie Kent tallied goals to give Boston College the 6-4 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half.

The Eagles scored the final six goals of the first half, including two more from Apuzzo and two from Dempsey Arsenault, to lead 12-4 at the break. Boston College scored six of seven goals in the second half to complete the rout of the No. 16 Mids.

Elsewhere in a busy night in Women’s Division I:

  • No. 8 James Madison made it five straight wins, downing Penn State 11-9 in Happy Valley. Halle Duenkel and Maddie McDonald each had three goals to lead the Dukes to the victory over the Nittany Lions. Penn State took an early 3-0 lead, but James Madison responded with six of nine goals to tie the game 6-6 at half. Five different scorers combined for a run that pushed the Dukes’ lead to 11-6 with 9:27 left — a lead that stood despite a late Penn State run.

  • No. 7 Virginia bounced back after a loss to Syracuse, dominating George Mason 20-9. Avery Shoemaker scored six goals to push her total to 19 on the season.

  • Livy Rosenzweig dropped four goals to fuel No. 9 Loyola’s 12-6 victory over crosstown rival Towson on Wednesday night. Rosenzweig scored the game’s first two goals, helping the Greyhounds take a 7-3 lead at halftime. Towson cut the deficit to two goals before Loyola pulled away with a three-goal, second-half run.

  • Maggie Schneidereith tallied six goals to lead Johns Hopkins to a 5-1 record and a 17-11 win over Saint Joseph’s.

2. Roanoke men's lacrosse pulled off an upset at a frigid Tierney Field on Wednesday afternoon, downing No. 11 Stevens 12-10. Goalie Ian Davies made 22 saves, including nine in the fourth quarter during a furious Stevens rally, to fuel the big victory for the Maroons. On the offensive end, Peter Lindley (brother of Loyola sophomore Kevin Lindley) dropped six goals to lead Roanoke.

It was one of a few notable Division III results on the day:

  • No. 6 York picked up a big win on Wednesday afternoon, downing No. 8 Gettysburg 14-6 on the road. Dylan Wolf had three goals and four assists to lead the Spartans to the victory — one in which they outscored the Bullets 11-3 over the final three quarters.

  • No. 1 Wesleyan continued a strong start with a 17-6 win over No. 20 Coast Guard. Carter Hawthorne had four goals and an assist to lead the way for the defending champs.

  • Ursinus, which led our Men’s Division III Notebook, had its matchup with Montclair St. canceled on Wednesday.

3. It was a busy day in the NLL, with the trade deadline approaching. The Rochester Knighthawks were active on the trade market on Wednesday, making three deals featuring some of their top players.

In the first deal, the Knighthawks dealt American star Joe Resetarits to the Black Wolves for a pair of draft picks. Next up was a trade with the San Diego Seals, sending Paul Dawson to the expansion franchise for two second-round picks. To cap the day, the team sent Cory Vitarelli to the Colorado Mammoth for former first-overall pick Ryan Benesch. That’s 80 points and 34 loose balls traded away in one day. Benesch, though, led the Mammoth with 47 points.

4. Tim Troutner Jr. could be the most under-appreciated player in men’s college lacrosse. A late commit to High Point, Troutner has grown with each season playing with the Panthers. In 2019, he was key in upsets of Duke and Virginia.

“[Troutner] is finally getting the [national] recognition he deserves,” said Nate Carter, High Point’s junior defensive midfielder. “There were parts of the Duke and Virginia games where our defense collapsed. But Tim faced a bunch of good shooters in those games and made saves standing on his head.”

5. WPLL player Lauren Murray is back for another uplifting message to the lacrosse community. She walks us through a lesson in creating your own mantra. It’ll get you ready to take on your workday.

6. More PLL news. Wednesday, the league revealed the helmet designs for each of its six teams.
