Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. There wasn’t much midweek madness to report, but there were a few exciting games all the same.

No. 16 Army shut down No. 14 Syracuse in the fourth quarter, and Bobby Abshire took over from there in a 17-14 win for the Black Knights. And Towson led from the third quarter on in an 11-8 win over No. 20 Loyola, which is now 0-4.

In women’s lacrosse, 23 games were on the slate. At USA Lacrosse headquarters, No. 8 Michigan easily handled High Point (more on that here). Elsewhere, No. 9 Loyola outlasted Penn, Taralyn Naslonski reached a career milestone for Rutgers and Elon and Campbell played a crazy 22-20 shootout.

2. The MCLA released its latest updates to the New Balance Coaches Polls.

Brigham Young remains at the top of Division I, but Clemson — which features eight players who were formerly members of the shuttered NCAA Division I Furman program — is surging up to No. 2.

In Division II, ST. Thomas is clinging to the top spot with threats looming from Kennesaw State and Utah State.

3. The WCLA also released the latest updates to its coaches polls.

Georgia is 10-0 and No. 1 in the WCLA’s Division 1 poll, and Loyola Club has ascended to No. 1 in Division 2 on the heels of a 5-0 start. UC San Diego (9-1) jumped from No. 5 to No. 2, and Utah Valley (3-0), which was inactive last week, dropped from No. 1 to No. 3.

4. Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel neutralized her daughter, Caroline, with a faceguard on Monday.

Talk about tough love. The longtime coach and East Carolina attacker had a good laugh about it a few days later, and Caroline Kimel took it as a sign of respect.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• UConn has started slowly in just about all of its contests this season. Charlotte Varnes reports on how the Huskies are working on upping the intensity.

• Taylor Cummings was back in the booth for Maryland-Florida last weekend. In “Taylor’s Takes,” she writes about her views from the booth and the other happenings in women’s lacrosse she paid attention to last weekend.

• When is it time for a coach to walk away? Former Roanoke coach Mary Schwartz writes for the IWLCA about her decision to retire.

• Ricky Schwartzberg, the former Archbishop Spalding (Md.) head coach, allegedly spent more than $170,000 of Peninsula Lacrosse Club funds on personal expenses over an 18-month period. Charges were filed, and Schwartzberg “maintains his innocence,” according to the Capital Gazette.

Kevin Lindley now stands alone as the Patriot League’s all-time goals leader after this crazy sequence and timely reaction led to the record-breaker.
