Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. More than 100 of the nation’s most highly regarded under-19 boys’ lacrosse players are coming to US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., for a three-day tryout — the first of several events that ultimately will determine the 23 players who represent Team USA in the 2020 World Lacrosse Men’s U19 Championship in Limerick, Ireland. Coach Nick Myers remembered fondly how the 2016 gold medal squad that included 17 future college All-Americans came together and set the tone for what traits he’s looking for this weekend.
2. Chris Gray, a second-team All-American attackman who put up 111 points as a sophomore at Boston University, is transferring to North Carolina, according to Inside Lacrosse’s Ty Xanders, who broke the news just a day after also reporting that Loyola midfielder Chase Scanlan has entered the transfer portal.
3. Oregon bolstered its defense with the addition of Stony Brook transfer Rachel Williams, who started 21 games for the Seawolves as a sophomore.
4. Ursinus, York, Denison, Gettysburg and Cabrini were profiled in Jonathan Sigal’s way-early 2020 rankings for Division III men’s lacrosse as top-10 teams.
5. The IMLCA has announced its Division IIII All-Americans, as well as national players of the year, for the 2019 season. RIT and Salisbury had four selections each named to the All-American teams, while Cabrini’s Jordan Krug and Tommy DeLuca earned the top individual honors.
6. The Greater Houston Youth Lacrosse Association and River City Lacrosse were profiled as part of our series on community-based youth lacrosse leagues that are thriving despite the growing trend toward privatization in youth sports.
