Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. In danger of losing its third straight game to open the Premier Lacrosse League Championship Series, the Redwoods edged Chaos 8-7 in overtime in the lowest-scoring game in PLL history.
Ryder Garnsey scored the game-winner for the Redwoods, last year’s league runner-up, after being left alone as the Chaos defense reacted to Myles Jones driving to the center of the field. Jones, who had a team-high three points, fed Garnsey on the doorstep and he finished the play and the game.
It spoiled a stellar effort from Chaos goalie Blaze Riorden, who set a league record with 23 saves to break his own record of 21. On the other end of the field, Redwoods goalie Tim Troutner was outstanding as well. Troutner made 15 saves, none bigger than this stop on Curtis Dickson in overtime to keep the Redwoods alive.
Elsewhere around the PLL:
2. World Lacrosse issued a joint statement with the International World Games Association and The World Games 2022 Birmingham Organizing Committee stating that the groups would consider changing the format for the lacrosse competition for the upcoming World Games, a move that could pave the path to the Iroquois Nationals competing on the men’s side.
3. High school boys’ lacrosse in Oregon may not yet have reached the holy grail — state sanctioning by the Oregon School Activities Association — but rest assured it’s in good hands.
Led by current commissioner Paul Schlesinger and his band of brothers, many of whom trace their personal connections back to high school nearly 50 years ago, the Oregon High School Lacrosse Association continues to thrive as the boys’ lacrosse governing body in the state.
4. US Lacrosse seeks input on its National Team Development Program in wake of the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic.
