Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. For many in the Northeast, Wednesday was a snow day. With the winter storm came some beautiful views.

But that didn’t stop teams from getting some work in. After all, lacrosse season is in full force.

And for Fairfield and Columbia’s women’s lacrosse teams, it was business as usual. The two teams faced off in New York City amid a winter wonderland.

They weren’t the only teams taking the field Wednesday despite the winter storm.

It was a busy day in Division I women’s lacrosse, although both No. 11 Penn State an No. 13 Virginia had games postponed.

NOTABLE SCORES

Virginia Tech 19, Cincinnati 9
Army 12, Siena 8
Elon 23, Winthrop 4
Yale 18, Quinnipiac 7

2. Wednesday, we revisited an inspiring story that all started with an eBay purchase. Jason Ellison bought a stick online — one that traced its roots to former Harvard lacrosse player William Wallace “Wally” Fenn.

Fenn, a former captain, played alongside the team’s only black player, Lucien Alexis Jr. When Harvard traveled to face Navy in 1941, Admiral Russell Wilson barred Alexis from playing. The incident could have helped persuade President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to sign Executive Order 8802 that prohibited racial discrimination in the defense industry.

3. Salisbury coach Jim Berkman knew it would be a challenge to replace the defensive stalwarts he lost to graduation last season. Gone are starting defensemen Will Nowesnick and Kyle Tucker, and short-stick defensive midfielders Troy Miller and Jeremiah LaClair.

But it’s next man up for the Sea Gulls, which are allowing just 6.33 goals per game.

Also in the Division III notebook, Washington and Lee not panicking, Coast Guard strong in Year 5 and Brendan McGrath is back from injury and thriving in 2019.

4. After recording a big weekend in California, Pittsburgh tops the WCLA Division I coaches poll. Utah State leads the Division II coaches poll.
