Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Penn State’s Grant Ament and North Carolina’s Jamie Ortega were named the US Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Players of the Year for NCAA Division I men’s and women’s lacrosse, respectively, on Wednesday.

Both Ament and Ortega are the top returning offensive players for teams ranked No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Preseason Top 20 for their respective divisions. Ament, a senior, was a Tewaaraton finalist with an NCAA single-season record 96 assists last spring. Ortega, a junior,  set a UNC record with 112 points as sophomore.

Hall of Famer Mark Millon approves of Ament’s selection.

2. CBS Sports and the Patriot League announced 11 games that will be televised during the 2020 college lacrosse season. Much to the chagrin of some, the broadcast schedule includes just one women’s game.

WHAT WE’RE READING

  • From Fox Business, more on the Feb. 22 NLL game at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, which the host San Diego Seals are billing as the first professional sporting event ever held on an active U.S. Marine base. It should be a hot ticket.

  • Southington (Conn.) triplets Mackenzie, Camden and Garrett Brown all committed to play college lacrosse on the same day. Mackenize will play Division I lacrosse at UMass-Lowell, while her brothers will play Division III at Eastern Connecticut.

  • Turns out wide receiver Tom Kennedy isn’t the only Bryant lacrosse connection on the NFL’s Detroit Lions. For a Sports Illustrated article, defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni confided that his son (Dante) currently plays for the Bulldogs.

  • Newly minted three-star NYPD chief Michael LiPetri played lacrosse at Nassau Community College.

  • North Carolina also earned the top spot in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Division I Women’s Top 20.
