Good morning. Here's the latest from the lacrosse world:

1. The U.S. is one step closer to its goal.

The U.S. men’s U21 team kicked off the World Lacrosse Championship with a 7-5 win over Canada on Wednesday. Liam Entenmann made 11 saves, and Jake Naso and Alec Stathakis combined to win all but one faceoff.

The U.S. next plays England at 11 a.m. Eastern on Thursday.

2. After last week’s three-day combine, the 2022 USA Select men’s teams have been chosen.

USA Lacrosse named 44 of the nation’s top high school boys’ lacrosse players on Wednesday afternoon. The players represent 14 states. Over 100 players participated in the combine a week ago.

The USA Select teams will compete against international competition at the Brogden Cup at USA Lacrosse from Oct. 14-16.

3. Our Early Top 25 men’s rankings have reached Nos. 15-11.

Patrick Stevens writes about North Carolina, Harvard, Brown, Delaware and Ohio State (in order from 15-11, respectively).

Harvard and Brown weren’t in this conversation a year ago around this time, but breakout seasons in the deep Ivy League but the Crimson and the Bears in the national conversation heading into the fall. Can they keep up the momentum?

4. Two teams out west occupy spots in Nos. 15-11 in the Early Top 25 women’s rankings.

USC (No. 15) loses Kelsey Huff to graduation but has a talented group ready to replace her, including Isabelle Vitale, Ella Heaney, Shelby Tilton and Claudia Shevitz. Stanford (No. 11) has a deep core of young players who have already impressed at the NCAA level.

5. The Syracuse women are gearing up for another run at an NCAA title.

The Orange announced on Instagram that Sierra Cockerille and Tessa Queri will return for the 2023 season, joining Meaghan Tyrrell and Megan Carney as players coming back for another shot.

• Boston Public Schools’ “Fifth Quarter of Learning” has helped introduce youth to lacrosse over the summer. Twins Jeffrey and Jayden Joseph have fallen in love with the sport, writes Seth Daniel of the Dorchester Reporter.

• An $11 million project will see Maryland’s Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex double in size.

• Former Maryland men’s lacrosse player Anthony DeMaio has been named the head coach of The Woodlands Men’s Lacrosse Club.

• Stephanie Colson, the older sister of U.S. gold medalist Lizzie Colson who competed for Italy in the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship, will be the new coach of the Episcopal girls’ lacrosse team.
