Good morning. A solemn day as another hurricane ravages the United States and we remember the heroes that died 16 years ago today. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Today the lacrosse world pauses to remember the members of our community that died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. One of the most memorable stories to come from that day is the heroic actions of former Boston College player Welles Crowther, the Man in the Red Banana. A new film recounting his story opened in selected theaters on Friday. One year ago today, US Lacrosse dedicated a memorial at its headquarters to honor those that lost their lives that day. Former Virginia All-American, US Lacrosse Board Member and landscape architect Kris Snider shares the vision for the memorial:

2. Registration for the 2018 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon) opened on Friday. This is the sport's largest educational and networking opportunity and is geared towards coaches, officials and program administrators. There is also a Fan Fest component that features vendors showcasing the latest gear and innovations in the sport. LaxCon takes place Jan. 19-21, 2018 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

3. The National Lacrosse League announced its 2017-18 schedule and the 18-game regular season will be stretched out over five months. The season opens with a NLL Faceoff Weekend on Dec. 8-9, three weeks earlier than last year's start, and the regular season runs through April 29. Nine teams will compete this year with San Diego, and perhaps one more franchise, set to join the league in 2018-19.

• No. 22 is the most fabled lacrosse number at Syracuse, but No. 11 is quickly gaining status. Austin Fusco gets the honor next season.

• Inside Lacrosse named their top incoming freshmen for 2018, and it includes U.S. U19 alum Andie Aldave (Notre Dame) for the women and Tehoka Nanticoke (Albany) for the men.

• Great work by Paul Rabil hosting Harlem Lacrosse Baltimore at his Paul Rabil Experience event (at US Lacrosse headquarters) this weekend.

What’s On Tap

• The U.S. roster for the Heritage Cup, an October event pitting the U.S. against defending world indoor champion Canada, is slated to be announced.

• Game three of the Mann Cup, Canada's national box championship, takes place in New Westminster, B.C., tonight. New Westminster has a 2-0 lead over Peterborough in the best-of-seven series.
