Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Major League Lacrosse owners meetings with commissioner Sandy Brown have drawn rave reviews.
Chesapeake Bayhawks’ owner Brendan Kelly went so far as to say the recent round with his peers was the most productive of such meetings in his eight years at the helm of the franchise.
Other owners and team executives have made similar comments, crediting Brown’s experience, outreach and vision for moving the league forward with his MLL 2.0 plan.
2. Draw-control work to twisted lunge? Yes, according to Team USA’s Taylor Cummings.
Cummings has become a proponent of lacrosse-specific stretches in yoga.
“It’s perfect after a long day or week of training to loosen those tired muscles up,” she said. Check out her video demonstration.
3. The Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association has established a hall of fame and welcomes nominations for its inaugural class, to be inducted in 2019.
The MCLA administers the majority of non-varsity collegiate men’s lacrosse in the United States and has sponsored more than 20 postseason national championship tournaments. Nominations for the MCLA Hall of Fame Class of 2019 are due Dec. 1. The association will limit classes to a maximum of five per year.
4. Lacrosse All Stars has released the bracket for its North American Invitational indoor tournament (LASNAI).
US Lacrosse is sending two teams to participate as part of training for the 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse World Indoor Championship. More on Team USA’s participation in LASNAI soon.
LASNAI begins Sept. 27 in Syracuse, N.Y.
5. The Mann Cup, Canada’s Senior A box championship, continues today with the Peterborough Lakers holding a 2-0 lead over the Maple Ridge Burrards in the best of seven series.
Peterborough won the first two games in starkly different fashion. Adam Jones scored in sudden-death overtime to lift the Lakers to a 14-13 win in Game 1 Friday. Peterborough then completely dominated Maple Ridge in Game 2 Saturday, 10-1.
Game 3 begins at 8 p.m. ET today. Same time tomorrow for Game 4.
6. Sean Doyle, a 2018 graduate of Robert Morris after a four-year career as a defensive midfielder, has been named the defensive coordinator at VMI.
Doyle started all four seasons and served as a team captain as a senior. He helped the Colonels with their first Northeast Conference championship and NCAA tournament game during his career.
