Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell ponders on Snapchat whether he should have played lacrosse after a tough conditioning practice on Thursday. He claims football is too much on his body.
Of course, the lacrosse world noticed.
2. Legendary Landon (Md.) School coach Bob Bordley is stepping down after the 2018 season. He has amassed more than 600 wins in his career and the Bears have earned four No. 1 rankings by US Lacrosse Magazine under his leadership.
The 1966 graduate of Landon, who also has been a faculty member since 1970, led the boys’ lacrosse team to 31 Interstate Athletic Conference championships, including 22 straight from 1981 to 2002. Last year, the Bears went 21-0.
“I wanted to share this news so that you can join me in celebrating a man who has dedicated, and continues to dedicate, himself personally and professionally to all things Landon,” Landon headmaster Jim Neill said.
3. Veteran’s Day was Saturday and the lacrosse world shared its appreciation on social media.
4. Jenny Levy, the recently named successor to Ricky Fried as the U.S. women’s national team head coach, finds inspiration in the rise of the U.S. women’s soccer team, coached by her North Carolina colleague Anson Dorrance.
As lacrosse aims to reach the Olympics, Levy hopes to lead the effort, remembering the exciting 1999 World Cup win for Dorrance’s team after women’s soccer became an Olympic sport just three years prior.
“I am inspired by the pioneers, the '99er's, and the journey of U.S. women's soccer,” Levy said. “I feel the time is right for lacrosse to pursue the Olympic dream and it is my honor to serve through this exciting time. The players and the game are ready for more.”
5. Monmouth defenseman Dillon Smart, also a lifeguard, used his weight room experience to save a life in 2013.
6. Round 2 of LaxStache-Off for the HEADstrong Foundation has begun!
