1. A season-opening loss to Army is a distant memory after the Orange quieted the doubters with a thoroughly convincing 20-10 win over Virginia in men’s lacrosse on Saturday night in the Carrier Dome.

2. Colorado opened the season with a pair of surprising losses but flipped the script with a 14-7 victory over No. 11 Denver on Sunday. Zoe Lawless’ emphatic celebration of this goal symbolized the Buffs mood.

3. Rutgers has had more near misses to making the NCAA tournament than it cares to remember, but the Scarlet Knights are looking to erase all doubts this year. Rutgers improved to 2-0 with a dominating 22-12 win over Ohio State on Saturday.

4. Syracuse dominated Stony Brook in a big early season women’s game, even without star Emily Hawryschuk. Hawryschuk missed the game with what the school said was a “lower body injury,” and there’s been no information on her long-term status.

5. Brothers Jon (three goals) and Jacob Jarosz (17 of 23 faceoffs) paved the way for Navy to post a 13-6 comeback victory over Jacksonville. Later on Sunday, the school announced a 10-day pause for all athletic activities, except men’s basketball, due to COVID.

6. Virginia’s women made it three in a row to open the season after a 12-10 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday, its second top-20 win of the year over a state rival.

• Sports Illustrated examines the business model behind Athletes Unlimited, the group that is staging professional sports for women, including women’s lacrosse this summer.

• Holy Cross began its men’s lacrosse season with an 11-10 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. Patrick Stevens caught up with new head coach J.L. Reppert before the game.

• After starring at the Division III level, Kevin Rogers is having a dream come true playing at the Division I level for High Point.
