Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Gary Gait will be named the next head coach of Syracuse men’s lacrosse.

Yes, you read that currently. According to Inside Lacrosse, the former Syracuse legend will leave his post as head of the women’s program and replace coach John Desko, who will announce his retirement this week.

Gait will become just the fifth coach in the history of the Orange program. He leaves after leading the women’s program to four final four appearances.

Former Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala is considered a candidate for the defensive coordinator position.

2. The PLL is back for 2021, and the lacrosse world was excited.

Redwoods LC picked up two victories in the PLL’s opening weekend, clipping Cannons LC on Friday’s opening game and topping Chrome LC on Sunday. TD Ierlan made his PLL debut, winning 36 of 55 faceoffs in two victories.

Cannons LC capped its first weekend as a PLL franchise with a 13-7 victory over Waterdogs LC. Lyle Thompson and Andrew Kew, two MLL stars that made the transition to the PLL, each lead with six goals.

North is the second winner from Boston College, joining assistant coach Sam Apuzzo in the history books. Her 102 goals were an NCAA Division I women’s record, and she caps the season with the Tewaaraton.

Bernhardt is the second Maryland men’s winner, joining Matt Rambo (2017), after leading the Terps to the Big Ten title and a spot in the NCAA final.

Harrison, the former Johns Hopkins legend and now Redwoods LC attackman, announced he’ll retire after this summer.
