Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The PLL visited one of the most historic venues in lacrosse, Homewood Field, over the weekend.

In what was the featured game of the weekend, a sellout crowd saw the Whipsnakes score nine goals in the fourth quarter to pull away from Atlas en route to a 15-10 victory. The Whips are the lone unbeaten team in the PLL with a 4-0 record.

It was a game that featured a team full of Maryland alums (Whipsnakes) and one of Hopkins alums (Atlas). Matt Rambo led the way with three goals and an assist in the win. Paul Rabil scored twice and had two assists in his return to Homewood Field.

In the early game Saturday, Jules Heningburg dropped five goals and three assists to lead the Redwoods to the 13-11 win over Chrome. Heningburg was traded from the Whipsnakes on June 17 as part of the PLL Trade Window.

On Sunday, Blaze Riorden was dialed in with 21 saves, helping Chaos take down Archers 14-13. Let’s not forget Jarrod Neumann’s pair of two-point goals.

2. Dempsey Arsenault was all over the field for WPLL Brave, turning in four goals, one assist, eight ground balls and five draw controls in a 13-9 win over Fire at Homewood Field.

3. The Boston Cannons continued their hot streak to start the 2019 season, downing the New York Lizards 18-11 — the second win over the Lizards this season. Mark Cockerton and Connor O’Hara led the Cannons attack with four goals apiece.

In Friday night’s game, Bryan Cole scored four times to lead the Atlanta Blaze to the 13-11 win over the Dallas Rattlers. The Blaze sit at 3-1 in MLL play this season.

4. The U.S. U19 men's national team held a three-day tryout at US Lacrosse over the weekend in anticipation for the 2020 World Championships in Limerick, Ireland. Following the tryout, a selection committee consisting of the current U.S. U19 staff, previous U19 coaches and high school coaches will select approximately 50 players to attend a second tryout weekend from July 12-14 at US Lacrosse.

Check out the highlights from a quick, but intense, tryout.

5. UConn is expected to head back to the Big East, according to reports. The news could affect the entire athletic department, meaning the Huskies’ women’s lacrosse program would make the move to the Big East.

Currently a member of the AAC, UConn’s departure would drop the number of AAC teams to five, meaning it would lose its automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

6. The lacrosse community is mourning the loss of Jim Bernhardt, father of lacrosse stars Jesse, Jake and Jared, who died last week. Bernhardt worked in the NFL as the director of football research for the Houston Texans, but retired in 2017 before joining the Chesapeake Bayhawks as a special assistant.

Some of the biggest names in the game turned to social media to honor Bernhardt.
