Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Utah will add men’s lacrosse starting in 2019. In a move anticipated for months, Utah’s board of trustees unanimously approved Friday the addition of men’s lacrosse as a varsity sport beginning in 2018-19, making it the westernmost and first Pac-12 school to sponsor the sport at the NCAA Division I level.

Coach Brian Holman will start with a 40-player roster and transition over several years to a total of 12.6 scholarships. He’ll retain fellow assistants Marcus Holman, Will Manny and Adam Ghitelman.

“I’ve been dreaming of this day for 30-something years,” Holman said. "I have a lot of faith. God puts us in spots for a reason. He put us here.”

Utah passes Denver as the westernmost Division I program in lacrosse, a milestone that Pioneers coach Bill Tierney welcomed.

“It’s what we’ve all been waiting for,” Tierney said. “Connect the dots to the growth of Division I lacrosse, and it takes three things, really: passion, money and guts. Those who are supporting this Utah move have all three.”

The lacrosse community was quick to congratulate the Utes on going Division I.

2. The Boston Cannons picked up a dominant win over the first-place Denver Outlaws on Saturday. Former Notre Dame star Sergio Perkovic made his MLL debut and scored the Cannons’ first goal and they cruised to the 16-9 win. Tyler Fiorito stopped 20 of 29 shots for the Cannons.

Paul Rabil and Greg Gurenlian both set career milestones in the Lizards' 13-12 win over the Rattlers on Saturday, ending New York’s three-game losing streak.

Rabil’s game-tying goal was his 500th point in MLL play, good for second all-time behind John Grant Jr. Gurenlian also notched his 2,000th faceoff win, a number unmatched by anyone in MLL history.

The Florida Launch continued its win streak to three games, dropping 19 goals on the Atlanta Blaze — including seven goals from Kieran McArdle — to hold on for the 19-16 victory on Saturday. With the win, the Launch (5-3) moves to within a half-game of first place behind the Ohio Machine and Denver Outlaws.

Ryan Brown, Kevin Crowley and John Haus each had a hat trick to help the Charlotte Hounds hold on to beat the Chesapeake Bayhawks 15-14 on Friday night. Jake Froccaro and Colin Heacock both had their first career goals for the Bayhawks, but it wasn't enough.

3. Lacrosse fans gathered in Montreal over the weekend to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the sport. 

The highlight of the celebration came on Saturday at McGill University, when players re-enacted a traditional lacrosse game, equipped with authentic wardrobe and equipment.

4. Team USA attacker Michelle Tumolo had her share of adversity in 2013. First, she narrowly missed the cut for Team USA’s trip to that summer's FIL World Cup. Then, she tore her ACL playing in her senior season at Syracuse.

She was tested four years ago, but Tumolo came back stronger. Now, she's leading the Team USA offense as it heads to Guildford, England for the 2017 FIL World Cup.

“I’m so lucky that I’m one of the four attackers still around and I can’t wait to be out there and have USA on my chest, listen to the anthem with my teammates and get out there,” she said. “…  I feel better than I did even before I tore my ACL, if that even makes sense. I feel so confident.”

5. In the final weekend of high school lacrosse in Massachusetts, Needham upset national No. 21 Longmeadow 8-5 to win the Division I girl's state title. 

On the boys’ side, Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.) won its third straight Division I state championship with an 8-7 win over BC High on Saturday.

6. Actor Jeffrey Wright has made it big with his role as Bernard Lowe on HBO's "Westworld," but he was once just as enthusiastic about the game of lacrosse. Wright, the former Amherst do-it-all player, was interested in both the game on the field and its origins off of it.
