Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The latest college coaching buzz centers on New England, where longtime Notre Dame assistant Gerry Byrne is set to take the helm of the Harvard men’s lacrosse program, according to multiple reports over the weekend.
Another coach with Crimson ties, former Harvard women’s lacrosse coach Lisa Miller, has resurfaced as the new head coach at UMass Lowell. Miller coached in Cambridge from 2007-2018, but is perhaps best known for guiding Syracuse from its infancy in 1996 until 2007.
Elsewhere, James Madison assistant Emily Boissonneault was tabbed to lead the new program at Pittsburgh, while Boston University’s Ryan Polley, one of the Harvard candidates, reupped with BU.
2. The Premier Lacrosse League standings have tightened at the midpoint of the inaugural season. Atlas, Chaos and Redwoods emerged victorious at Georgia State Stadium in Atlanta.
John Crawley, inactive last week at Homewood Field, scored a go-ahead goal with just under three minutes remaining to lead Atlas to a 13-12 win over Archers on Friday night — a game in which Trevor Baptiste fueled Atlas with a 20-8 advantage on faceoffs and goalie Jack Concannon made a huge stop on Tom Schreiber at the buzzer.

Both Saturday games were close, as well.
Chaos survived a furious fourth-quarter rally by Chrome, winning 15-14 in overtime. Deemer Class scored the game winner.

Redwoods defeated previously unbeaten Whipsnakes 14-11, scoring the last three goals, the go-ahead tally coming on a vintage Kyle Harrison jump shot down the right alley, the veteran midfielder’s first goal of the season.

Chaos and Whipsnakes are tied atop the PLL standings at 4-1. Redwoods is 3-2. Archers and Atlas are 2-3. Chrome is 0-5.
3. The defending Major League Lacrosse champion Denver Outlaws staked their claim to first place with a 17-16 win over the previously unbeaten Boston Cannons in a thriller Saturday. Rookie Zach Runberg, a Colorado native who played college lacrosse at the University of Denver, scored his first career goal with 20 seconds left to win the game. Boston had rallied from a four-goal fourth-quarter deficit, despite an outstanding game by Outlaws faceoff specialist Max Adler (21-for-37).

In other MLL results Saturday, the visiting Atlanta Blaze throttled the Chesapeake Bayhawks 19-10 behind five goals and two assists from league scoring leader Shayne Jackson, while the New York Lizards kept the Dallas Rattlers winless with a 13-9 victory on Long Island. Rob Pannell notched his 388th career point to become the Lizards’ all-time leading scorer.
4. A US Lacrosse-sponsored team of WPLL and U.S. national team pool players played three games in England, winning twice. Command attacker Kara Mupo scored four goals in each of the wins, an 11-4 victory Friday and a 10-3 decision Sunday. England managed an 11-10 win Saturday when Jenny Simpson scored in the final seconds.
