Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The NCAA lacrosse season got off to an early start with Mercer downing Bellarmine 9-4 in the lone Division I men’s game of the weekend. The Bears beat Bellarmine for the first time since 2015.
2. A busy weekend in the National Lacrosse League was highlighted by Buffalo scoring the final four goals of the game, including Chris Cloutier’s smooth gamewinner, to rally past New York 18-17. The Bandits improved to 5-0 for the season.
3. Last week we wrapped up Top 20 team-by-team previews, culminating with a look at the reigning NCAA champions and our No. 1 teams for 2022 – the Boston College women and the Virginia men.
4. Former Merrimack and Virginia star Charlie Bertrand, who had a pair of assists in Rochester’s 12-8 loss to Toronto this weekend, has made a surprisingly quick transition to the box game despite limited experience.
