Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. After two “down” seasons, Maryland showed it’s ready to get back to its usual territory at the head of the women’s lacrosse world. Buoyed by a 10-point game from grad transfer Aurora Cordingley, the Terps dominated Florida 18-8 on Saturday in College Park.
2. In the marquee men’s game of the weekend, No. 3 Georgetown dominated early, but had to hold off sizzling charge from No. 4 Notre Dame before pulling away for a 16-11 win in South Bend on Saturday. Georgetown goalie Owen McElroy dominated with 24 saves.
The top six teams lost in NCAA men’s basketball on Saturday. There was no such story in college men’s lacrosse. No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 Maryland both beat Top 20 level teams, though No. 5 Yale was upset by Penn State.

3. Kayla Treanor stayed unbeaten as the head coach of Syracuse’s women’s lacrosse team, but it wasn’t easy. Meaghan Tyrrell ended Notre Dame’s comeback attempt with the game-winning goal in overtime as the Orange beat the Irish on Saturday.

4. With two lost seasons due to the pandemic, Ivy League teams appreciate every opportunity they get in 2022. For the Penn men, it was a chance to celebrate after beating Duke on Saturday on Long Island.
5. North Carolina has one of the top offenses in women’s lacrosse, but it was the Tar Heel defense that helped shut down the high-powered Jacksonville offense on Sunday.
6. Rutgers and Loyola delivered a worthy Top 20 men’s lacrosse performance on Saturday, with the Scarlet Knights winning 13-12, but the story of the day happened before the game began. The game was delayed more than an hour as Rutgers forgot its jerseys and had to wait for them to arrive from Piscataway.
7. A pair of top 10 women’s teams, No. 6 Stony Brook and No. 9 Michigan, flexed on Sunday with big wins. The Seawolves overwhelmed Dartmouth 20-3 and the Wolverines downed Towson 18-6.
8. In Sunday men’s lacrosse, Chris Gray scored seven goals to lead North Carolina past Johns Hopkins, Jacksonville continued its early-season success beating Air Force a day after it knocked off Denver and Stony Brook won the inaugural Long Island Cup.

East Carolina’s leading scorer, Frances Kimel, is the daughter of Duke head coach Kerstin Kimel.
