Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse season opened this weekend, and Jacksonville rallied for a big win over High Point to open Friday’s action. On Saturday, Notre Dame showed it’s picking up right where it left off. Rounding things out on Sunday was No. 1 North Carolina living up to the hype, besting Stony Brook 14-7 in a top-five showdown. And in case you forgot, Izzy Scane is really good. She tied a Northwestern record with nine goals in a win over Ohio State.

2. In college men’s lacrosse action on Saturday, Duke and North Carolina continued their dominance while the game of the day came on Long Island, with St. John’s outlasting Hofstra 19-18 in overtime on Mike Madsen’s goal, despite an 11-point effort from Ryan Tierney.

3. On Sunday, Virginia and Loyola each picked up wins. Virginia beat Army without the services of goalie Alex Rode, and Kevin Lindley scored the final three goals of the game, including this amazing quick stick, as Loyola beat Richmond in overtime.

4. Every lacrosse fan’s favorite NFL player, Chris Hogan, gave the sport’s enthusiasts a Valentine’s Weekend present when he announced that he has entered the Premier Lacrosse League player pool and declared for the Entry Draft. NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the news to his more than eight million Twitter followers.

Hogan hinted at the possibility two years ago on our “Overtime with Paul Carcaterra” podcast.

Hogan isn’t the only former NFL player heading to the PLL. Former Sachem (N.Y.) player Dalton Crossan, who was signed by the Colts and Buccaneers at various points, is reportedly signing with Chaos LC. Crossan has been in the PLL’s player pool since last season.

And one more … former Army star and 2014 U.S. team attackman Garrett Thul is retiring from the Army and is also putting his name in the PLL Entry Draft.

• NLL commissioner Nick Sakiewicz with a detailed analysis of why the league chose to cancel what would have been a shortened spring 2021 season.

• Bellarmine’s men’s lacrosse program is on a two-week pause due to COVID-19 protocols. That will include postponing tomorrow’s game at North Carolina that was scheduled to air on the ACC Network. North Carolina replaced Bellarmine with High Point.

• Aquinas men’s lacrosse coach Doug Seites has stepped down from his position after going 53-35 and leading the school to the NAIA championship game in 2019.
