Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The US Lacrosse National Teams Program Friday continued to prep for its next event, the Team USA Spring Premiere Jan. 25-27 at Stanford University, as women’s under-19 team coach Kelly Amonte Hiller named 34 players to the travel squad for that event.
The U19 team, which will compete for the Federation of International Lacrosse Aug. 1-10, 2019, in Peterborough, Ontario, will join the senior team, squads from England and Japan, and Fresno State and Stanford at the six-team event. This will be the U19 squad’s first training event since the Team USA Fall Classic in October.
2. There’s a sense of urgency channeling through two National Lacrosse League teams as our league previews continue in advance of Saturday’s opening night. Buffalo took some time to ultimately revamp a portion of its front office after another playoff miss, while Calgary, as of Friday at least, had not yet been able to secure leading scorers Wes Berg and Curtis Dickson on contract terms.
3. Player safety remains a strategic priority of US Lacrosse, and the sport’s national governing body continues to work with cardiac experts, NOCSAE and the equipment industry to reduce incidents of commotio cordis.
