Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Happy Fall Classic weekend.
Business is about to pick up at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Maryland, where the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams meet rival Canada in a doubleheader Friday night — the first two of 30 games taking place at Tierney Field and nearby St. Paul’s School over the next three days.
The NCAA champion Virginia men and Boston College women also are competing in the Fall Classic, while the USA Select U16 and U18 boys’ and girls’ teams will defend the Brogden Cup against counterparts from Ontario and the Haudenosaunee Nation.
2. “They broke the mold with Tom Postel.”
The lacrosse community is mourning the loss of another National Lacrosse Hall of Famer. Postel, a C.W. Post legend and two-time U.S. team attackman, died Tuesday at his home on Long Island. He was 77.
Postel was equally as decorated as a coach as he was a player. He was the head coach at C.W. Post for 20 years, leading the Pioneers to their first NCAA championship in 1996.
