Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. Conference tournaments are in full swing, and you can check out full roundups from yesterday's men's games and women's games.
Among the highlights, a defensive-minded Big Ten men's semifinal between Johns Hopkins and Ohio State got physical, to say the least. The former rallied in support of its goalie, who in the fourth quarter was sent to the turf via a push from behind. Alex Concannon assisted the game-tying goal and scored the winner with 11 seconds to play, lifting the Blue Jays to a 6-5 win and a rematch with Maryland in the final.
Towson fended off Delaware in overtime, 9-8, thanks to Matt Sovero's game-winner. The Tigers will indeed buck the odds and play for a fourth consecutive CAA championship. Lower-seeded teams ruled the day in the MAAC semifinals. And Denver's Trevor Baptiste set a record for career faceoff victories.
On the women's side, Denver held Georgetown scoreless for 22 minutes and Elizabeth Behrins scored five goals in a 12-7 upset of the Hoyas. The Pioneers will draw against Florida for the Big East championship Saturday. Lower-seeded teams ruled the day in the MAAC semifinals here, too; ditto that in the Southern Conference.
2. Prior to this season's 15-6 loss to York, when was the last time the Salisbury men got shellacked in a game? Fortunately for the Sea Gulls, they've put aside their early struggles and are peaking heading into a rematch with the Spartans for the Capital Athletic Conference title.
3. The 18th annual US Lacrosse Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates National Championship hits Round Rock, Texas, Wednesday. Check out our preview of the event, which features 28 of the best non-varsity teams competing for titles in two divisions.
4. Will ‘X’ mark the spot for the 2018 U.S. men's team? Here's a look at the cover of the May/June edition of US Lacrosse Magazine, which members of US Lacrosse have begun receiving.
5. Oh, Canada.
