Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Virginia limited North Carolina to one goal in the second half, as the top-ranked Cavaliers defeated the ninth-ranked Tar Heels 15-11 Thursday night in Chapel Hill.

The Cavaliers (6-0, 2-0 ACC) were playing without All-American defenseman Cade Saustad. Scott Bower started in his place. UVA scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter to turn a 10-9 deficit into a 14-10 advantage it would not relinquish. UNC (5-2, 0-1) committed 22 turnovers and was just 18-for-23 (78 percent) clearing the ball against the Cavs’ 10-man ride.

Connor Shellenberger was sensational with four goals and three assists, outplaying fellow Tewaaraton candidate Chris Gray, who was blanked in the second half while guarded by Cole Kastner and finished with a goal and three assists.

2. Northwestern rebounded from a lopsided loss to North Carolina with a 16-12 win over Stony Brook on Thursday — the Wildcats’ third straight game against a top-10 opponent.

Erin Coykendall was masterful with four goals and five assists, as the fourth-ranked Wildcats (5-2) led throughout against the sixth-ranked Seawolves (2-2).

In other notable women’s lacrosse results Thursday:

• Notre Dame could not sustain the momentum from its win over Virginia nor hold onto a four-goal lead Thursday, as Virginia Tech upset the 13th-ranked Fighting Irish 13-12. Olivia Vergano and Sophie Student each scored four goals. Whitney Liebler’s unassisted tally with 3:24 remaining held up as the game-winning goal. It was the Hokies’ second top-15 win of the season.

• Here comes Navy. The Midshipmen (6-1) knocked off a ranked foe for the second time in nine days, defeating No. 20 Johns Hopkins 13-12 in overtime. Lindsay Beardmore scored on free position with one second left on the shot clock to clinch the win.

• First-year program Pitt gave No. 7 Duke all it could handle, but Catriona Barry scored with 1:51 remaining to lift the Blue Devils to a 15-14 victory in Durham. The Panthers scored on their last 10 shots, finished shooting 14-for-20 (70 percent) and were a perfect 6-for-6 on free positions. Kate Elam scored a game-high four goals in the loss.

3. USA Lacrosse named the coaches who will lead U.S. national teams in The World Games this summer. Bobby Benson (Maryland assistant) and Andy Shay (Yale head coach) will lead the men’s team. Amanda O’Leary (Florida head coach) and Regy Thorpe (Florida assistant) will lead the women’s team. The World Games (July 7-17 in Birmingham, Ala.) will use the new World Lacrosse Sixes (6v6) discipline.

4. The Tewaaraton Foundation added 13 women and 14 men to Tewaaraton Award watch lists Friday. The award annually recognizes the top overall male and female college lacrosse players in the U.S.
