Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The Tewaaraton Foundation announced the Watch Lists for the 2019 Tewaaraton Award during a fundraising event in New York City last night. The 50 men’s players were headlined by two-time finalist Pat Spencer of Loyola and the 50 women’s players were led by returning Tewaaraton Award winner Sam Apuzzo of Boston College.
2. The Premier Lacrosse League is beginning to take shape. On Tuesday, the league dropped the names and logos for the six teams and yesterday, the full coaching staffs for each team were announced. The team assignments for the head coaches: Chris Bates (Archers LC), John Paul (Atlas LC), Nat St. Laurent (Redwoods LC), Jim Stagnitta (Whipsnakes LC), Dom Starsia (Chrome LC) and Andy Towers (Chaos LC).
3. Johns Hopkins finds itself in familiar territory – a second straight 1-2 start – but the Blue Jays are far from panic mode. Patrick Stevens checks in with a VMI and Denver in his weekly NCAA Division I men’s notebook.
4. Haverford picked up a historic victory on Tuesday, knocking off powerhouse TCNJ, and Paul Krome visits with second-year Fords coach Katie Zichelli in a NCAA Division III women’s notebook.
5. Alison Williams bridges the gap between two of the sport’s most successful coaches. She played for Hall of Famer Tina Sloan Green at Temple, and while serving as the head coach at Georgetown, gave current U.S. women’s national team and North Carolina head coach Jenny Levy her first coaching job.
6. There will be joy in “Mudville” as North Carolina will debut its new lacrosse stadium this weekend — one weekend after the men’s team tore up the turf at Kenan Stadium in a home game against Johns Hopkins. The UNC men host Denver at 10 a.m., followed by the Tar Heel women taking on Northwestern at 12:30 p.m. Both games are available on the ACC Digital Network and you can see the complete US Lacrosse TV/Streaming schedule here.
