Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The U.S. has made it to the World Lacrosse Women’s Championship final — again.
The Americans have never missed a gold medal match and 2022 will be no exception. Fueled by a magnificent eight-point effort by Kayla Treanor, Team USA downed Australia for the second time this week, 17-2.
Treanor’s eight points came on six goals and two assists, and she became the United States’ all-time leading scorer in world championship history. Charlotte North finished with four goals and an assist. The U.S. will play Canada Saturday at noon on ESPN2. It’s the third straight time the two teams have met in the finals.
2. Canada downed England to advance to its third straight final.
Canada will have a chance to play for its first-ever world championship Saturday after knocking off England 11-9. It was a night spent largely on the 8-meter. Ten of the game’s 20 goals were scored off free positions. Each team netted five goals from the 8-meter.
Erica Evans scored four goals to lead Canada. Matt DaSilva wrote a full recap of both semifinal games.
3. The best of the rest.
Scotland edged New Zealand 9-8 in the championship consolation bracket on Zoe Dickson’s free-position goal with two seconds left. Dickson finished with three goals.
The Netherlands and Italy advanced to the final of the platinum bracket. Sarah Sweerts de Landas Wyborgh led the Netherlands with four goals and two assists in a 13-8 win over China. Italy’s Colleen Owen also scored four times, as the Italians downed Latvia 9-7.
Italy and the Netherlands play today at 1 p.m. The winner will finish in 17th place overall.
