Good morning. Here's the latest from the lacrosse world:

1. The U.S. men are one step closer to San Diego.

U.S. men’s head coach John Danowski announced a roster of 50 players that will be invited to a training camp in late September as preparations continue for next summer’s world championship. The roster includes 18 players with international experience, including seven gold medalists from the 2018 U.S. team.

2. Athletes Unlimited is back in action.

Week 2 of the Athletes Unlimited season got underway on Thursday night at USA Lacrosse headquarters. Team Apuzzo kept its captain, Sam Apuzzo, undefeated for the season with a 12-6 victory over Team Johansen. Charlotte North’s two-pointer broke a 6-6 tie late in the third quarter to spur the victory.

In the second game of the night, Team Moreno outscored Team Aresenault 4-0 in the third quarter to key a 12-10 victory. Cortney Fortunato had two goals and an assist in the pivotal quarter. Taylor Moreno made 13 saves to continue her hot start to the season.

3. Former Stanford star Kyra Pelton has her eye on the future.

Our Beth Ann Mayer caught up with Athletes Unlimited’s Kyra Pelton who is a winner on and off the field.

4. Marge Donovan is headed to Maryland.

Maryland’s women’s lacrosse team added a key player for 2023 with the addition of Marge Donovan. The former Princeton star won a silver medal with the U.S. women’s Sixes team in Birmingham, Ala., earlier this month.

WHAT WE’RE READING

•  Longtime NLL goalie Mike Poulin has announced his retirement as a player. He will remain with the Georgia Swarm as an assistant GM.

• Division III power Washington and Lee has hired Denison assistant coach Maddie Coleman as its new head coach to replace Brooke O’Brien who returned to her alma mater, Amherst, after coaching at W&L the last 15 years.

• Current Athletes Unlimited player Caroline Wakefield has joined the coaching staff at Arizona State.

• Emily Cabrera is the new head women’s lacrosse coach at Life University, an NAIA program in Georgia.

• Stony Brook has added Holy Cross transfer Jolie Creo to its women’s lacrosse roster. Creo scored 82 points for Holy Cross last season, finishing sixth in the country in points per game.
