Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. The FIL issued a statement on the end of the World Championship gold medal game between the United States and Canada.

In the statement, the FIL addresses two specific calls late in the game. First was the last-second Tom Schreiber goal, which “was indeed scored within regulation time.”

It also touches on the late offside call, which drew extensive criticism and gave the United States possession down a goal with approximately four minutes left. The FIL said: “After reviewing available video, the call could have been made in error.”

2. The Atlanta Blaze picked up a huge win on Thursday night, holding on as the Chesapeake Bayhawks mounted a fourth-quarter comeback and emerging with the 12-11 victory. Kevin Rice had a hat trick to lead the way for the Blaze, which moves to 6-6 and a half-game back of Charlotte for fourth place. 

The Blaze put together a sound first half, which saw it take an 8-6 lead into the break. Christian Cuccinello and Rice tallied goals to boost the lead to 11-7 after the third quarter, and Sergio Salcido made it 12-7 with 11:50 left. Matt Abbott and Josh Byrne each scored twice for the Bayhawks over an eight-minute span to pull within a goal with 2:49 left. Chesapeake had the final possession of the game, but turned the ball over in lieu of the game-tying goal.

Austin Kaut had himself a night for the Florida Launch, making 25 saves to help his team survive 13-12 over the Ohio Machine on Thursday night. The victory keeps the Launch (5-7) alive in the MLL playoff race.

Down 3-2 after one quarter, the Launch scored five straight goals, including two from Dylan Molloy, to help take a 9-6 lead into the break. U.S. national team hero Tom Schreiber started a four-goal rally in the third quarter to pull the Machine within one entering the final period. 

Kaut was big for the Launch as it held onto a lead for the final eight minutes. Molloy finished with four goals to lead the offense.

Also in MLL news, Denver Outlaws goalie Jack Kelly was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform List and will miss the rest of the 2018 season. Kelly suffered a non-contact injury in the U.S. national team's second game in the FIL World Championship.

3. Colgate men’s lacrosse introduced former Notre Dame assistant Matt Karweck as its next head coach on Thursday morning​.

Karweck, who spent six years with the Irish, replaces former Raiders coach Mike Murphy, who resigned last month and eventually took the job at the Hill School (Pa.).

4. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved Thursday a new women’s lacrosse rule that permits substitutions when the game clock is stopped.

The change is an alteration of a rule implemented in the 2018 season that affected the substitution procedure, which will now allow the free movement rules the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Rules Committee passed last year to continue.

5. Lacrosse dad Brandon Perkins became obsessed with the game when he moved to Kennesaw, Ga. and his son, Bryce, began playing. He needed to find a way to expose the game to more children.

Perkins worked with US Lacrosse Regional Director Lou Corsetti, as well as Atlanta Blaze director of operations Mark Rowley to set up a camp at Kennesaw State. More than 60 kids attended the camp despite inclement weather — a sign that there’s interest around the Atlanta suburbs.

• The Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame added two more lacrosse members on Thursday. Cathy Reese, current women’s coach and former star player, and Joe Walters, former men’s star, enter the Hall of Fame.

• Cornell announced its 13-member freshman class of 2022, which includes six defensemen.

• Washington College named former Gettysburg assistant and Hamilton grad Kate Fowler as its next women's lacrosse coach.

• Joe French recounts a lesson taught by Dom Starsia, and how it helped him find his stolen scooter.
