Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. The Six Nations Arrows are your Minto Cup champions. The Arrows again came back from a first-period deficit, scoring six unanswered goals to take home their third title in four years in a 3-0 sweep of the Coquitlam Adanacs.
Austin Staats led the way for the champion Arrows with two goals and two assists, and Owen Hill added two goals to the total. Staats finsihed with 13 points in three games, winning the series MVP, while Hill had seven points in two games played.
2. The U.S. women’s national team may have come home from Europe with two gold medals, but they left a lasting impression on the women’s international game. With its third consecutive FIL World Cup win, Team USA is becoming the model for countries around the world to grow the game.
Ever since coach Ricky Fried joined the team in 2009 and implemented his infamous “Aces” ride, the U.S. women’s national team has been dominant. That, combined with a skilled and tireless offense, made for a team destined for gold.
“These are the Ricky years,” said Devon Wills, the co-captain and two-time All-World goalie. “We definitely put a stamp on the map in terms of how we played under this staff.”
3. The NFHS met in July and refined 15 boys lacrosse rules aimed at increasing safety and creativity within the high school game. Among the changes was an outlaw of “fish hooking” of mouthpieces, which will now result in a penalty, a rule allowing shots that leave the stick before time expires and another permitting schools to use a unified field supported by US Lacrosse.
According to Rick Lake, senior manager of the men’s game for US Lacrosse, these rules were also put in place to maintain consistency within all age groups and to make the game more exciting.
3. Stadium, a multiplatform sports network, reached an agreement to stream 24/7 on Twitter. With this agreement comes up to 2.500 college games streamed on Twitter, including lacrosse.
As part of the agreement, Stadium will stream games from conferences like the Patriot League, and Southern Conference. It’s another step in the increased exposure of lacrosse — which streamed live on Twitter during the 2017 season.
4. Does looking good really affect your performance? Do you really feel a boost when you look stylish? The “look good, feel good, play good” philosophy has been used for years and it’s been accepted as truth.
In our MythBusters series, we put the mindset to the test. Check out what we found.
