Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:
1. There will be no sports at NYIT for “at least two years.”
Because of the costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Division II school on Long Island will suspend its athletics programs.
President of NYIT Henry C. “Hank” Foley said that all athletic scholarships will be honored so they can graduate on schedule. There are close to 250 student-athletes enrolled at the school.
While the official release said athletics will be gone for at least two years, it does not provide a clear return date. “At a future date, New York Tech will re-evaluate the decision to suspend its participation in NCAA competition.”
2. Isaiah Davis-Allen is the MLL’s Cascade David Huntley Man of the Year.
IDA, a leader in the social justice push in Major League Lacrosse, was honored by the league Thursday with one of the most prestigious honors in the sport.
Davis-Allen was the subject of some of the most powerful imagery of the 2020 season for his role in the MLL 4, a group of four black players in the league who stood at midfield for the National Anthem before games as a sign of unity and to bring attention to racial injustice.
Players and coaches from around the sport congratulated IDA for his honor.
3. Connor Doyle has been hired as the head coach of Alabama Huntsville.
Doyle had spent the last two seasons at Montevallo as the team’s defensive coordinator. Alabama Huntsville competes in the Great Lakes Valley Conference of Division II.
