Good morning. Fridays are usually for looking ahead, but yesterday was jam-packed with action on the field and news off of it. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. North Carolina kept its postseason hopes alive with a wild rally over Syracuse in the opening round of the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Trailing by three goals with under four minutes to play, Carolina ripped off three goals in a span of just 45 seconds and then Matt Gavin scored the game-winner with 1:07 left to shock the Orange. Carolina advances to play top-seeded Virginia in the semifinals on Saturday.

2. No. 19 Stanford opened the Pac-12 tournament with an 17-6 win over Oregon despite 21 saves from Ducks' freshman goalie Rachel Hall, a U.S. U19 team member. Stanford, which got four goals from Katherine Gjertsen, and will play Colorado in today’s semifinal round. In other first-round game, Cal beat Arizona State 12-8 to advance to play No. 18 USC.

In the Atlantic 10, Richmond and Saint Joseph’s picked up victories to advance to today’s semifinals against George Mason and Massachusetts, respectively.

3. The Tewaaraton Award named its 25 men’s and women’s nominees for 2019, highlighted by reigning women’s winner Sam Apuzzo.

4. That was the start of a great day for Apuzzo. The senior from Boston College was named the No. 1 overall pick in the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League in the evening. Her BC teammates Dempsey Arsenault and Kenzie Kent followed her in the draft as the Eagles had the first three selections.

5. The Premier Lacrosse League announced its full 2019 schedule, including broadcast information. Three games will air on NBC, 16 games on NBCSN and 20 games will be streamed via NBC Gold.

6. A little less than a year ago, Notre Dame Prep ended McDonogh’s national-record 198-game winning streak in high school girls’ lacrosse. The Eagles gained a measure of revenge last night with a 13-5 victory in a game played on Tierney Field at US Lacrosse headquarters.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Reigning NCAA champ Yale is 10-2, is the only team to have beaten Penn State, and both losses have come in overtime. Somehow, the Bulldogs seem to be flying under the radar. Patrick Stevens checks in with Yale coach Andy Shay in his weekly notebook.

• In a word, RIT head coach Jake Coon says this year’s squad is scrappy. Jonathan Sigal’s Division III notebook looks at the Tigers as well as the youth movements with Haverford and Cortland.

• Ally Kennedy likes chocolate, pugs and may or may not like channeling her inner-Adele. A look at the Stony Brook and U.S. team midfielder in our Give & Go series.

• Keith Edgerton, a US Lacrosse-certified coach from Olympia, Wash., is legally blind, but that hasn’t slowed his involvement with the sport one bit.

• Fairfield University is getting ready to host an NCAA men’s lacrosse quarterfinal at Rentschler Field, a precursor to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships.

• Abby Rehfuss knows a thing or two about being busy. The Siena women’s lacrosse coach also works as a lawyer.

• LaSalle (Pa.) high school coach Bill Leahy won his 500th career game on Thursday, becoming the 19th boys' coach all-time to reach the milestone and the first from the Philadelphia area.

• Three-time U.S. national team member Kyle Hartzell is excited to work with the National Team Development Program.

• The ACC women’s lacrosse semifinals highlight today’s playing slate, including No. 4 Syracuse at No. 1 Boston College. Syracuse gave the Eagles its toughest game of the season, leading in the second half and trailing by just a goal with under five minutes to play in an eventual 14-12 BC win.
