Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. You really just can’t help but laugh at this point.

Either the Duke men’s lacrosse team loves overtime, or ACC teams are beginning to figure out the formula necessary to take the former No. 1 team in the country to the brink. It was another Thursday night thriller in Durham, and Michael Sowers found Cameron Mulé on the doorstep for a one-timer that sent Duke home victorious 13-12.

Duke had trailed 12-7 before mounting an insane comeback, punctuated by two goals from Sowers with less than a minute to play — the tying goal a lefty blast from 16 yards out.

It was so insane that it led off SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt.

2. There were Thursday Night Lights in women’s lacrosse, too.

No. 3 Syracuse and No. 4 Boston College played another candidate to the growing list of games of the year, as Jenn Medjid scored the eventual winner with 1:04 left and Rachel Hall preserved the lead with an athletic save seconds later to secure BC’s 14-13 win.

We won’t have to wait long for a rematch. These sides play again Saturday at noon.

3. The Penn women were the first Ivy Leaguers to play in 2021.

In one of the feel-good moments of the year, the Quakers were able to take to Franklin Field and beat La Salle 16-11, honoring their senior class in the process.

Zoe Belodeau, one of those eight seniors, scored her 100^th goal in the contest. The game was permitted because Penn met local standards and was allowed to play a non-conference game within a certain set of parameters.

4. The Johns Hopkins women have won again.

The Blue Jays trailed Michigan 11-7 with 17:47 to play but scored six of the last seven goals to win 13-12 in Ann Arbor. Abbey Hurlbrink’s 11^th goal of the year was the winner with 52 seconds remaining.

5. Jared Bernhardt made headlines yesterday.

On the same day the 25 men’s Tewaaraton Award nominees were announced, multiple sources told Inside Lacrosse that Maryland’s program great has plans to pursue football again in the fall — meaning he won’t play professional lacrosse this summer in the PLL.

A Maryland spokesperson confirmed Bernhardt’s intentions to IL. It remains to be seen how Bernhardt’s football itch will alter teams’ draft plans.

6. Izzy Scane headlines the 25 women’s Tewaaraton Award nominees.

With 70 goals through 11 games, it’s hard not to consider Scane the favorite. But Charlotte North, Jamie Ortega and others could be right on her heels with strong showings during the postseason.

7. Those who rushed to Peter Laake’s aid detail how they saved his life.

Stellar reporting from US Lacrosse Magazine contributor Justin Feil here. Laake, who suffered a commotio cordis incident last week when playing a high school game for Loyola Blakefield, was revived on the field by the use of an AED and the help of several heroes on the field and in the stands.

Feil goes in depth on everything that happened from the moment Laake was hit in the chest with a shot to the moment he opened his eyes again several minutes later.

WHAT WE’RE READING

• Ella Brockway writes about how Johns Hopkins coach Janine Tucker won her 300^th game as a coach and thanked all her former players, coaches and mentors.

• Marquette played the longest Division I men’s game since 2012 in its four-overtime victory last weekend. Now, Andrew Stimmel wants his team to play a full (and hopefully just) 60 minutes. Patrick Stevens reports.

• A week of wild results shook up this week’s women’s lacrosse bracketology, and BC’s win over Syracuse is sure to shake it up some more. Bracketology from Jeremy Fallis.

• The Schneidereith quadruplets appeared on “The Stick Drop” podcast with Sheehan Stanwick Burch. They’re believed to be the first set of quadruplets to play a college sport. More here.
