Good morning. Here’s the latest from around the lacrosse world:

1. Maryland clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular season title with a 16-14 win over Penn State on Thursday night at State College. Freshman Kali Hartshorn had four goals, including three in the first half, and Zoe Stukenberg had six points (two goals, four assists) to fuel the Maryland victory.

The game was tied 6-6 at halftime, but Jen Giles and Taylor Hensh each had multiple goals in the second half to help the Terps build a lead as much as four goals, which proved too much for the Nittany Lions to overcome. Madison Carter scored four of her six goals (ties a career-high) in the second half, but she couldn't pull the Nittany Lions back.

Maryland outshot Penn State 42-29, including a 26-9 margin in the second half. Penn State recorded 15 turnovers on the night.

Also in action:

  • No. 8 Florida Tech overcame a three-goal halftime deficit to beat No. 11 Rollins 14-10 on Thursday night. (WD2)

  • No. 10 Lindenwood narrowly avoided an upset at Lake Erie on Thursday afternoon, overcoming a four-goal deficit to down the Storm 9-8. The Lions trailed 6-2 in the third quarter before they mounted a seven-goal rally to take the 9-6 lead and hold on for the victory. (MD2)

2. Proposal 2017-1 has been in effect for less than a week, and some coaches and players are still searching for answers.

After the early recruiting legislation was passed by the NCAA Division I Council on Friday, it was first thought that the rule would be effective April 26, when the NCAA Board of Governors will approve much of the other legislation passed by the Council. However, the Council labeled the lacrosse legislation “non-controversial” and thus, it became effective immediately.

High school and club coaches give a glimpse of how their programs are reacting to the change, and players, specifically those graduating in 2019-2021, tell us how they’re feeling now that they have more time before they can commit.

3. Syracuse freshman Emily Hawryshuk is following a Kayla Treanor-like trajectory so far this season.

Hawryshuk, who leads the team with 31 goals, is drawing praise from her teammates, as well as opposing teams. The Victor (N.Y.) native is helping fuel a late-season rally for the Orange, who have knocked off No. 2 North Carolina and No. 10 Cornell is consecutive games.

Syracuse freshman Emily Hawryshuk may come off the bench, but she leads the team with 31 goals.

4. Monmouth lacrosse went winless in its first season just four years ago, but is now one win away from clinching the top seed in the MAAC tournament. The Hawks have joined the list of programs to break out during their fourth season.

Led by former Notre Dame assistant Brian Fisher, Monmouth features 22 of the 30 players that made up its first-ever recruiting class. The next step is sustaining that success.

5. The MLL season kicks off this weekend, and Phil Shore continues his series of team previews with the Chesapeake Bayhawks, Ohio Machine and Boston Cannons.
