1. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), 2-0
The two-time Florida state champions opened the season with a 19-0 win over Plantation (Fla.) and then beat Lake Highland Prep (Fla.) 13-6. Previous: 1
2. Dallas Jesuit (Texas), 4-0
The Rangers rolled through the opening days of the season, picking up four wins over in-state schools. They beat Allen 13-5 in the opener, rallying after falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter with help from hat tricks by Tommy Hovivian and Teddy Wagner. Jesuit then beat Frisco 8-4, Colleyville 10-4 and Westlake 12-4. Wagner and Peter Buell each scored two goals in the win over Frisco. A game against The Woodlands scheduled for Feb. 24 was cancelled according to the THSLL website. Previous: 2
3. Lassiter (Ga.), 1-0
The Trojans opened with a 10-2 win over Milton (Ga.), as John Michael McCormack, Murphy Mostellar and Colston Smith all scored two goals. Previous: 3
4. Lambert (Ga.), 3-0
The Longhorns got off to a strong start with big wins over North Forsyth (Ga.) and Alpharetta (Ga.). They shut out North Forsyth, 18-0, and then beat Alpharetta 18-0. They finished up the week with a 14-5 win over Blessed Trinity (Ga.). Previous: 4
5. Middle Creek (N.C.), 0-0
The Mustangs’ first game is scheduled for Tuesday, as they begin their quest to defend their first NCHSAA 4A state championship last year. Six starters return, including the heralded brother tandem of Owen and Jake Caputo. Owen Caputo is a senior attacker who earned All-American honors last year, and Jake Caputo is a junior midfielder. 6. Ponte Vedra (Fla.), 4-0
The Sharks got off to a quick start with four wins, including a noteworthy 11-10 decision over the IMG Academy (Fla.) varsity squad. Ponte Vedra opened the season with a 10-3 win over Hagerty (Fla.) and then beat Menendez (Fla.) 17-0 and Fleming Island (Fla.) 15-2. In the win over IMG, goalie Wyatt Schupler made 14 saves. IMG lost just one game last season, and that was to Ponte Vedra. Previous: 6
7. Episcopal School of Dallas (Texas), 2-1
The Eagles opened with a 16-8 loss to IMG National, but bounced back with a 9-7 win over Westlake (Texas) and 19-0 rout of St. Stephen’s (Texas). Previous: 7
8. Centennial (Ga.), 2-0
The Knights collected a forfeit win over Mays (Ga.) to start the season but made up for the missed opportunity to play a game by rolling over Parkview (Ga.), 22-1. Nicky Solomon led the attack with 15 points on six goals and nine assists. Ryan Siracusa added four goals and an assist, and Sam Risse had three goals and two assists. Previous: 8
9. Weddington (N.C.), 0-0
Coming off their first NCHSAA 1A/2A/3A state championship, the Warriors are scheduled to take the field for the first time Wednesday. Expectations remain high for the the team, despite a coaching change, as nine full- or part-time starters return. Senior attackman Austin Leonard, who had five goals in the state title game, and junior faceoff specialist/midfielder Whitnor Litton, who had nine groundballs and won 23 of 29 faceoffs in the title game, are among the top returners. 10. Louisville St. Xavier (Ky.), 0-0
The Tigers begin play Saturday and look for a strong start with nine starters returning from last year’s state runner-up squad. They have depth and skill at every position, and a challenging schedule that features Christian Brothers (Tenn.), Culver Academy Prep (Ind.), Cathedral (Ind.) and several Virginia powers, including state runner-up Norfolk Academy. WARRIOR/US LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wyatt Schupler, Ponte Vedra (Fla.)
The senior goalie was “amazing” in an 11-10 win over IMG Academy, according to coach Tom West. He posted 14 saves against a team that had just one loss last year – to the Sharks – and for the week, Schupler had 41 saves with 15 goals allowed in four games. He had one shutout as Ponte Vedra sprinted to a 4-0 start.
