After Stanford upset Stony Brook, unranked Colorado made a statement against the No. 14 Cardinal with a 20-13 upset to open Pac-12 play. The win was achieved in the Buffaloes’ 100th game since the program started in 2014. 

"Conference play is so important and Stanford is a great team, coming off a great weekend on east coast,” Colorado coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. “I am proud of our energy and effort tonight. We had struggled offensively with our execution the last couple of games and our attackers have been focusing in on that the last two weeks. It paid off tonight."

A commanding 14-5 first half performance anchored the Buffaloes, featuring a nine-goal spurt, five goals from Samantha Nemirov and a hat trick from Miranda Stinson. 

The Cardinal opened the second half with a 5-1 run to cut Colorado’s lead to five, but the Buffs followed with the same exact spurt, including two more goals from Nemirov and one more from Stinson. 

Stanford closed out the game with the final two scores, but it wasn’t enough to make a comeback. 

Nemirov and Stinson finished with eight and five points, respectively, and Eliza Cahill secured a team-high eight draw controls. 

Stanford got five points apiece from Ali Baiocco and Katherine Gjertsen. 

Both goalies – Colorado’s Julia Lisella and Stanford’s Trudie Grattan – recorded 14 each.
