There were two games last week that featured top-five teams pitted against each other, and each ended in a one-goal result.
Middlebury came from behind to beat Colby 12-11. The Panthers were ahead at halftime, but the Mules outscored them 4-1 in the third quarter to take a 10-9 lead into the final quarter. Middlebury scored the next three goals, though, with Maggie Coughlin scoring the eventual winner. Julia Jardina’s fourth goal of the game came with a little over three minutes remaining, but Colby wouldn’t get any closer.
Franklin and Marshall, which lost to Colby on March 26, bounced back with an 11-10 victory over Gettysburg. While the teams combined for 20 goals in the first three quarters, there was only one goal scored in the fourth quarter; Lauren Pittman scored her only goal of the game with about 13 minutes remaining, and that held as the game-winner. Prior to that goal, Gettysburg had scored three straight in order to tie it going into the fourth quarter.
It was a good week for the Diplomats, who also defeated Haverford for sole possession of first place in the Centennial Conference. Lydia Cassilly scored seven goals and added four assists over the two games; against Gettysburg, she scored three goals and added an assist, tallying her 300th career point in the process.
Elsewhere, Colorado College earned three victories through the week. Sophomore Charlotte Iller was impressive, scoring 10 goals and adding five assists in three victories.
