Welcome to Five Things with The Meg Show, a weekly series sponsored by Gait Lacrosse featuring former Syracuse women’s lacrosse stars and current members of the New York Charging, Meaghan Tyrrell and Meg Carney.

Each week, the duo will provide their thoughts on the weekend in NCAA women’s lacrosse and share their perspectives on the people, storylines and teams making waves in 2025.

This week, Tyrrell and Carney break down the five games they’re watching this weekend.

No. 19 Louisville at Ohio State

Louisville makes the trip to Columbus following a weekend sweep of previously ranked Denver and Cincinnati. Ohio State also took down Denver last weekend, setting up a matchup between teams off to fast and slightly unexpected starts.

Negai Nakazawa, the Japanese phenom, leads the Cardinals with eight points, while Zoe Coleman takes the field for Ohio State following a four-goal performance against Denver.

No. 8 Syracuse at No. 9 Maryland

A battle between two top-10 teams is renewed after the Terps took down our very own Orange in overtime at the Dome last season. We’ve battled Maryland 25 times, and this game should be another classic.

Maryland opens the season at College Park with a few holes to fill on offense, with names like Hannah Leubecker, Libby May and Eloise Clevinger gone.

No. 4 North Carolina at No. 7 Florida

North Carolina and Florida each passed their first tests last weekend, with the Gators scoring in the final seconds to beat Johns Hopkins and North Carolina dominating James Madison.

Both teams are fast, gritty and aggressive, so if you want to see a show of athleticism, you should check this game out. Can North Carolina continue its ascent toward the top of the rankings, or will Florida pull off another big win?

No. 1 Boston College at No. 2 Northwestern

The game of the season, at least early, is a national championship rematch with Boston College flying out to Northwestern. The top two teams in the country have cruised through the first two games but meet again in this historic rivalry.

Boston College returns much of the core that helped pull off the comeback win against Northwestern in May’s national title game, with Rachel Clark, Emma LoPinto and Mckenna Davis leading the way and Shea Baker and Shea Dolce holding tight on defense. Northwestern loses the star duo of Erin Coykendall and Izzy Scane but returns Tewaaraton finalist Maddie Taylor and defensive stalwart Sammy White.

No. 3 Michigan at No. 6 Yale

This is a fun matchup between two teams that made noise in the NCAA tournament last year and are hoping to continue the momentum into 2025.

Jenna Collignon and Fallon Vaughn make their season debut in New Haven, attempting to get the best of Preseason All-American goalie Erin O’Grady and the Michigan defense.
