Hope Shue Named USA Lacrosse D-III Women's Preseason Player of the Year

Middlebury’s Hope Shue was named the USA Lacrosse Division III Women’s Preseason Player of the Year on Friday by USA Lacrosse Magazine.

The leading point-producer for national champion Middlebury last spring, Shue returns after an 81-goal, 25-assist campaign with her sights set on a fourth straight NCAA championship.

PRESEASON ATTACKER OF THE YEAR

Hope Shue, Middlebury

Shue has been a key cog in each Middlebury championship, and she begins her senior season with 220 career goals, 52 assists and 159 draw controls. She was named the 2024 Division III Player of the Year by the IWLCA.

PRESEASON MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR

Grace Osborn, Capital

It’s becoming impossible to ignore the record-shattering pace of Osborn, whose statistics three years are more mind-boggling than a video game on Rookie mode. She has 385 goals, 105 assists, 409 draw controls, 173 ground balls and 113 caused turnovers in 56 career games. Six hundred points is a real possibility by the end of her senior season.

PRESEASON DEFENDER OF THE YEAR

Natalie Held, Salisbury

Named the 2024 Division III Defender of the Year by the IWLCA, Held led a Salisbury defense that coughed up just 8.41 goals per game. In 22 starts, Held produced team-leading totals in draw controls (83), ground balls (55) and caused turnovers (40).

PRESEASON GOALIE OF THE YEAR

Izzy Weintraub, Wesleyan

A second-team All-American according to the IWLCA, Weintraub was a defensive anchor for Wesleyan as a sophomore. She saved 46.4 percent of shots, with many of her best performances (11 saves vs. Salisbury, 9 saves vs. William Smith, 11 saves vs. Colby) coming against top-flight competition. She allowed 8.14 goals per game, which ranked 14th nationally.
