Most NESCAC teams finally began their season this weekend, meaning the defending champion, Middlebury, began its quest for another championship.

The Panthers successfully opened the year with a victory over NESCAC foe Amherst.

Junior Skylar Lach led all scorers with five goals and one assist, while senior goalie Gina Driscoll tied a career-high with 12 saves while allowing only three goals.

A pair of top-10 matchups shake up the order. Colby beat Wesleyan in each team’s first game of the year. The score was tied at 8 going into the fourth quarter until senior Kins Helmer scored with seven minutes remaining for the quarter’s only goal.

Gettysburg shut out Washington and Lee in the third quarter before outscoring the Generals 4-1 in the fourth. Sarah Scollin (four goals, one assist) and Emily Crane (five goals) led the team with five points each. The Bullets have another stiff test next weekend against Salisbury.
