Georgetown Women's Lacrosse Coach Ricky Fried Announces Retirement

Former U.S. women’s national team head Ricky Fried announced his retirement as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Georgetown after 20 seasons leading the Hoyas.

Fried was a part of four world championship teams with the U.S. national team program while coaching at Georgetown. He was an assistant coach for the 2009 U.S. women’s team and then served as the head coach in 2013 and 2017 for World Cup championship teams. He also led the U.S. to the gold medal in the inaugural lacrosse competition at The World Games 2017 in Poland.

At the collegiate level, he won a school record 196 games in his 20 seasons at Georgetown and led the Hoyas to the NCAA playoffs nine times with two quarterfinals appearances.

“I owe all of the current and past players a huge debt of gratitude for all they have given to the program both on and off of the field,” Fried said in a statement. “Finally, to all of the assistant coaches I have had the pleasure to work with, any success I have attained is in large part due to them supporting and pushing me to improve daily. Words can not convey the appreciation and love I have for each one of you. I wish the current team much success this year and for years to come."
